In Case You Missed It: Anime Expo 2018

Anime Expo is one of the largest conventions in Southern California. While it may not be as massive as San Diego Comic-Con, Anime Expo is still a force to be reckoned with. Roughly 110,000 fans attended the convention this year to take part in the fun. Hit the jump to see what AX had to offer 2018!

It probably goes without saying that anime is a very important part of Anime Expo. Many of the activities at the convention revolve around an anime theme. For instance, “maid” and “butler” cafes, a prevalent fixture in anime culture, are places where guests can go to grab refreshments while being entertained by the staff. Anime Expo also has no shortage of guests! Guests included several female J-Pop bands (Japanese pop bands) as well as notable voice actors in anime and gaming such as Adam Gibbs, voice actor from Grave of the Fireflies; Anjali Bhimani, voice of Symmetra from Overwatch; and Bill Farmer, voice of beloved Disney characters, Goofy and Pluto. Although it is prominently featured in the name, Anime Expo is certainly not limited to just anime. For instance, some of the guests featured there are “digital influencers” such as “abridged” series creator Octopimp and vlogger, Dodger.

Another notable aspect of Anime Expo is the cosplay. Anime Expo showcases many cosplay guests from around the world known as “Cosplay Senpai.” Some of the cosplay guests included incredible self-taught makeup and plastic artist, Joo Skellington; LA-based costume designer, Amber Arden; and body positive cosplay and J-Fashion model, Kiss A Frog Cosplay. Not only are the guests incredible artisans but many of the attendees of Anime Expo are extraordinary craftsmen and models, as well! Take a look below at some of the best cosplay photos from AX 2018!
